Interactive Stock CarSimulator and an Airport Beacon @ History Cherokee

There are many reasons to visit the Cherokee County History Center. Let’s highlight two:  Dixie Speedway Stock Car Simulator and the Cherokee County Regional Airport Beacon.

The frame for the Dixie Speedway stock car was created by Capital Cars and is an actual frame made specifically for our permanent exhibits by Capital Race Cars of Woodstock. Capital Race cars is owned and operated by the Green family, as is the Dixie Speedway in Woodstock. Despite the frame’s small, almost child-like size, is it a full-scale race car frame used by race car drivers (minus a few pieces to make it easier for museum guests to climb inside). The videos playing on the “dashboard” of the car were given to us from Marshall Green. They are of actual laps on Dixie Speedway’s dirt track and will fascinate all ages!

The airport light was the Cherokee County Regional Airport Rotating Beacon and was donated by Lead Edge Design Group. This beacon stood watch over the airport during the period when the airport grew from being a small recreational airport to one of the top business airports in the southeast. It flashed green on one side and white on the other and welcomed visitors from all over the United States.
